Statue at Mullingar, County Westmeath
This sculpture commemorates the famine and its effects in the area. The millwheel ties the sculpture to Mullingar by the legend of St Colman. The hands are the hands of thousands, but more specifically of Leamhán (Elm), who inscribed her mark on such a stone and in our hearts and imagination. Gerald Leslie 1997.
